Apply for Social Security Number (SSN)

After arriving in Texas, if you have been offered an on-campus job, you must apply for a Social Security Number (SSN) to begin working legally.

Visit the Social Security Administration (SSA) office in Conroe, TX:

Hours: 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM (Monday to Friday)

📄 Documents to Bring

• Completed Social Security Card Application (available at www.ssa.gov or in-person at the SSA office)
• Letter from your employing department
• Letter from the Global Engagement Center (GEC)
• Your Form I-20
• Your passport with valid F1 visa
• Your most recent I-94 record (Get your I-94 here)
• Birth certificate (if available)

Note: You cannot apply for an SSN until you are physically present in the U.S. and have received your hiring documents.
